ARGH 2001 Pre-Season Power Ratings

The following are the pre-season ARGH power ratings for the 117 Division 1-A teams for 2001, including one team new to Division 1-A but not to my ratings: South Florida; and one team new to the ratings that will be playing a Division 1-A schedule for the first time in 2001: Troy State. These ratings are calculated as of information available July 13, 2001, and are final unless there's a coaching change between now and the beginning of the season.

These power ratings are computed using the following factors: Previous year's power rating; second previous year's power rating; number of returning starters; previous year's strength of schedule; whether the coach is returning; whether the starting quarterback is returning, and recruiting. The strength of each factor varies each year based on what has happened in the three previous years.

Click here to see strength of schedule, both overall and non-conference, for each team.

The estimated home field advantage for 2001 will be .611, or about 5.92 points for an average game.

The next update will come after the pre-season "classics" in the last week of August.
